Shelia Hicks is an artist known for her work with textiles and sculptural weaving art. She attended Yale university and got a bachalers and Masters degree in fine arts. She works and lives in France, and has created both small and large scale work.

"May I have This Dance" 2003. In this piece I really like how the different shapes and cords come togther to create a circle, but are still asymetrical. The positioning of the colors works very well in the natural envirment, as they are bright, but not too harsh.

"Gabriel Reaching for Heaven" 2022. For this outside sculpture Hicks worked with textile producers to create a weather resistant fibers. I really like in this one how the smaller strands twist togther to form the larger lines. This creates a nice texture, and the colors seem very intentionally chosen to coenside with the nearby buildings and enviroment of the the park that it was displayed in.

Lianes Magistral 2021. This one reminds me of a landscape, with the patterning and colors of each longer section. One detail I enjoy is the contrast between the vertical shapes, and the horizontal directioning of the yarn on the colored sections. I may consider using different directions of stitches to vary texture in my work.
