Laurence Vallières is an artist known for her large-scale cardboard sculptures. She studied visual arts at Concordia University in Québec and continued her art education through an exchange program in Los Angeles. She began to take inspiration from street art after her residency in Russia. Her work often features animals, and she uses a combination of cardboard, brown, and bright colors.

One thing I like about this piece is the movement of the wings and the limbs. The curvature of the sculpture is very smooth, but the individual lines and pieces of cardboard are very intentional and create an interesting texture on the body. Also, the level of detail on the dragon's face is excellent. If I ever decide to focus completely on sculpting cardboard, I think it would be important to consider the direction and finish of the final layer of cardboard. These sculptures are all very finished, and the layering is very intentional.

This piece shows how, when Vallières uses color, she does it in very clean sections, while still emphasizing the cardboard nature of the material. It is also interesting to see the different-sized pieces of cardboard and how she used the different shapes to create texture and planes.
