I visited the Visual Arts Center and was able to view the winning scholastic arts pieces from my area that were on display. They had a gallery for the gold key, and the silver keys were shown throughout the building. One thing that I noticed with the gold key that set them apart from the silver key was that all the space in teh piece seemed to have a purpose, or was doing something for the work. Also, there was more of a refinement of perspective and mark in the gold keys. However there were a few silver keys that I liked, and a few gold keys that I didn't, which shows just how difficult the judging must be.
Here are two works that stood out to me:

I liked this work because of the combination of mediums, with teh painting, but also the use of textiles and sewing. Especially because I enjoy working with fabric and yarn myself. Also, the way this was painted doesn't make the combination seem out of place, rather it seems very fitting

With this piece, I particularly liked the use of color. The red and orange tones of teh surrounding heads make the one in the center even more striking. The eye ye in teh center creates a vocal point, with it staring at the viewer, but the eyes can travel around with the spiral of teh skulls around.
